Overnight live with Dan Richards

Our curator Tim finally caught up for a chat with Dan Richards about his latest book, Overnight, seven years since first featuring Dan's previous book Outpost in the Adventurous Ink in pre-podcast days.
In this fascinating, heartwarming and humbling conversation, Dan gives us the inside line on writing the book and the after-dark experiences it features. He guides us through the hows and whys of the process, digging deep to understand his role as a writer to be present, to fully engage, not sit on the sidelines or slide through life giving it little of your attention.
Dan expresses his need to manifest this awareness, articulating the experience and the fresh perspectives it offers to help the reader connect on a human to human level. And he shares how writing the book was a way of opening up and dealing with some overlooked or difficult issues, parenting, homelessness, care, service, mortality. The stuff of life!
It turns out that overnight offers a far more enlightening perspective on the world than you would ever expect without experiencing it yourself, either directly through stepping into the dark yourself, or vicariously joining Dan in his many and varied night-time exploits.
