The Savage Landscale live with Cal Flyn

We caught up with Cal Flyn, author of our Spring 26 deep read, The Savage Landscape, to hear more about her travels to some of the world's most inspiring wild places.

The wilderness stuttered and shifted constantly during our conversation; was it a thing, could you map it, could you find it, should you? Would everyone else be there too?

Cal reflected that many of the most opportune moments find you if you simply place yourself in their way and allow them to arrive, rather than actively seeking them out. "Is this it?" she asks, rhetorically, at one point, as she takes us back to a pause on a Nepali trail to soak in the pureness of the place, water so clean and clear it didn't even contain any life.

It seems she found a nirvana out there in the remotest; a remarkable experience amongst many shared so evocatively here, along with a host of profound reflections on what happens when we find ourselves in the wild.
